Mechanical engineering, one of the oldest and broadest fields of engineering activities, deals with machinery, energy and manufacturing-production methods. Mechanical engineers design and manufacture machines and equipment for all branches of industry as well as machine tools. For example; engines for turbines, printing presses, earthmoving machinery, food processors, air conditioning and cooling systems, artificial hearts and limbs, airplanes, diesel locomotives, automobiles, trucks and mass transportation vehicles. In the field of energy expertise, mechanical engineers are concerned with the design, manufacture and operation of hydraulic turbines to drive electric generators and boilers, engines, turbines and pumps to generate steam power. They design and operate power plants and deal with the economical combustion of fuels, the conversion of heat energy into mechanical power and the use of that power to do useful work. In the field of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, mechanical engineers provide controlled temperature and humidity conditions in homes, businesses, commercial buildings and industrial facilities. They develop necessary equipment and systems for keeping food cold, cold storage and ice production facilities. Mechanical engineers also work in the design of machinery for passenger, combat and cargo ships, the design and manufacture of cars, trucks and buses in the automotive industry, and the design of new aircraft and spacecraft in the aerospace industry.
Mission
To train engineers who have research, development and design competencies at the international level, who are sensitive to sustainable development and environmental issues, who are leading the technological development in accordance with national needs, and to contribute to international and national technology with research and development activities carried out in this process.
Vision
To be an internationally productive department in research and development activities, constantly renewing itself in line with universal and national technological needs and creating and applying contemporary education and research strategies in this regard.
